This Substack has been started to help as many people as possible improve their skill with and knowledge about data. Why? Data is the most important resource in the modern economy and nearly everyone has to work with data in whatever job they do. And yet most people do not get any help with data management from the organizations they work for beyond directives about data privacy and confidentiality.
What Topics Do I Cover?
Anchoring Data covers topics that help improve skills of non-data specialists to make their everyday work easier. I also provide explanations about data topics. Data is often shrouded in mysterious terminology, with little explanation of how different aspects of data came to be. My intention is to demystify it.
Why Should You Subscribe?
I have spent most of my working life involved with data. I worked as a programmer in mainframe days and rode successive waves of data innovation, becoming ever more involved in strategy as the years went by. I have seen the world change from data being irrelevant to where it is today.
I would like to extend an invitation to you to join Anchoring Data as a way of getting a practical understanding of data. I hope to build a community of professionals from all backgrounds who benefit from the publication and actively engage in thoughtful discussion with me and with one another.
